| Industrial Growth Scholle Corporation settled in Merced a few years ago to assemble its "bag-in-a-box" products, locating its new plant next door to the Thomas A. Lipton, Inc. facility in Merced’s Western Industrial Park. The Scholle Corporation is the founder of the bag-in-a-box technology, and remains a world class leader in food packaging. Another relative newcomer to Merced is Arvin Sango. Arvin Sango manufactures exhaust components and dashboard panel mounts for New United Motors Manufacturing Inc. located in Fremont, California. Talk about fast-track ... from the time Arvin Sango announced that Merced was selected as the site for its West Coast facility, the building was constructed and operational in only 75 days. Safeway Corporation opened the doors of its food processing plant in 1997. The Merced facility is the first food processing plant that Safeway has constructed in over 20 years. The 121,000 square foot plant processes jams and other products for distribution throughout California, the US, and Canada. Quebecor World Merced has been in operation in Merced’s Western Industrial Park since 1981. The company’s printing presses are some of the largest and most technologically advanced in the world. Label Technology is a local success story. The company started ten years ago, literally at the founder’s kitchen table, and it recently expanded from a 20,000 square foot facility to a new 65,000 square foot production plant in the Merced Airport Industrial Park. With state-of-the-art equipment Label Technology has developed into an award-winning designer and manufacturer of printed pressure sensitive labels. Well on its way to becoming the number one manufacturer of competition ski boats in the US, Malibu Boats recently outgrew its 42,000 square foot plant. Malibu Boats is now housed in a 94,000 square foot plant where the award- winning ski boats are assembled and then tested on Malibu Boats’ private test lake adjacent to the plant.
